Alternative School Information
March 17, 2008
Dear Parent/Guardian/Student:
On Thursday, March 13, 2008, the Hawkins County Board of Education passed the following policies:
Beginning Tuesday, April 1, 2008 transportation will no longer be provided for alternative school students. Parents are responsible for their child’s transportation to and from the alternative school. Students are not allowed to drive to alternative school. Alternative School hours are 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Students who do not attend alternative school will be referred to truancy board and/or juvenile court when/if they miss five unexcused absences.
Beginning August, 2008 students may attend the alternative school only one time per school year. If students misbehave after returning to the regular school, they may be expelled for up to one calendar year.
Please talk with your child about these important rule changes. The goal of Hawkins County Schools is to educate and graduate each student. In order to achieve this important and worthy goal, students must behave in class and they must attend school. It is important that every child have the chance to be successful. Thank you for your help and support in this matter.
Respectfully,
Gloria J. Silvers
